Training Your Team

Customers will gain confidence in your pub’s wine offering if your team know about it and therefore spend more money on it.

  • Taste the wines with your team- which ones go with which dishes on the menu
  • Store wine at the correct temperature
  • Give the wine list with the menu
  • Don’t keep your customers waiting for their wine
  • Practice service- opening, pouring, allowing the customer to taste it
  • Correct level- don’t under or overfill glasses, room should be left for the wine to breathe in the glass
  • Give your customers control- let them pour the wine and offer a replacement when a bottle is near the end
  • Champagne & sparkling wine- bottle should be chilled well- twist the bottle not the cork- fill glasses in stages to prevent overspill
