Food Safety

Ensure you are complying with all aspects of food safety and hygiene within your pub


Cloths

Cloths can be one of the main causes of cross contamination. They must be used safely to prevent bacteria from spreading.

  • Use single use cloths wherever possible. Dont be afraid to dispose of them after each task.
  • If you are preparing ready to eat food, always use a new or freshly washed cloth to wipe equipment, utensils or work surfaces.
  • After using cloths with raw produce, ensure these are thoroughly washed or disposed of after each use and not just when they look dirty.
  • Wet reusable cloths should be kept in sanitized water between uses in a container marked sanitized water.
  • If you wash and disinfect cloths by hand, make sure all food and dirt has been removed before you disinfect them. Ideally wash cloths in a washing machine on a hot cycle.
  • Your actions:

    1. Keep a log of events if things go wrong, what did you do?

    2. Have a special place in the kitchen for dirty reusable clothes.

    3. Always keep a good supply of clean and single use cloths in your kitchen.

    4. Train your team.
