Hog roasts: a hog roast is a simple way to feed lots of people. You can hire in the equipment to do it yourself, or hire in the equipment with someone to do it for you. If you are doing it yourself ensure that you comply with all food safety regulations so that everyone is fed safely. Ask your local butcher or look in your local directory for contacts for hog roasts, or contact the Food Team for further advice.

Top tips for setting up an outdoor bar:
EQUIPMENT
A gas barbecue is a good investment – it provides consistent cooking and less hassle (see our suppliers section)
Replace cheap garden furniture with something of better quality and appearance to entice customers to want to eat outside
Hiring equipment: sometimes it can be more economic to hire in furniture and other items for outdoor events. Make sure you are clear on pick and drop off times and how the equipment is to be returned or you may incur extra charges.
THE WEATHER
We can't rely on the weather so always have a contingency plan in case of rain.
To save wastage buy chilled meat for a BBQ not frozen, that way it can be frozen if the weather is bad.
If it is a sunny day make sure you have shaded areas and parasols.
Think about staffing- if you open inside and outside you will need at least double the staff. Make sure that you have revised operational systems so everyone knows what they are doing. Do your costings making sure you have accounted for your extra overheads!
