Soft Drinks

Soft drinks offer high margins- make sure you are making the most of them

  • Review your range of soft drinks regularly and remove slow selling products
  • Make sure your soft drink range matches the occasions you offer in your pub eg: family lunch, big night out
  • Think about trading up to large bottles of soft drinks to give you better margins and offer your customers better value for money
  • 1 in 4 adults are trying to lose weight- make sure that you stock diet versions of drinks and not just Coca-cola or Pepsi- offer a point of difference to your competitors
  • Make sure that you stock drinks formulated for children
  • Keep an eye on new drinks or special promotions particularly those that your customers will have seen advertised and may want to try
  • Stock both still and sparkling bottled water, if you have a good food business make sure that you offer large bottles as well
  • Be imaginative- soft drinks can be mixed together to create fruit cocktails eg: orange juice & cranberry juice, orange juice & lemonade
  • Train your staff properly to serve soft drinks, quality of serve is vital if you’re offer is going to perceived as quality, this will also help you to charge more. Set aside the time to train properly, just 15 minutes will make a big difference.
  • Give customers a large glass so that they are likely to finish their drink at the same time as their group
  • Draught soft drink temperature should be 1-5°C, ensure that the unit is cleaned regularly
  • CHECK YOUR DRAUGHT SOFT DRINK MIX WEEKLY- COMPARE TO PACKAGED VERSION OF PRODUCT

DRINK GARNISHES- pre-cut marinated fruit is not something that you should be using in your pub. Thin slices of lemon were introduced during times of rationing- wedges look more appealing and will add to the flavour of the drink.
The choice of garnish is dependent on the drink.
    ORANGE- wedge of orange
COCA- COLA- wedge of lemon or lime (you could use lemon for regular and lime for diet)
TONIC- lime (this reacts better with the bitterness of the quinine in the tonic)

LOCAL PUBS- broad range of soft drinks for regular customers
CITY/ TOWN PUBS- lunch time trade should be considered- fresh juices, refreshment
DESTINATION PUBS- non- alcoholic accompaniments to food, premium soft drinks, fresh juices, kids

    PROMOTIONAL IDEAS
Run a soft drink promotion for the designated driver
Offer soft drinks as part of meal deals particularly at lunch times and early evening
